Election results were accepted during the regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education held April 12 at Coffey. Newly elected board members P.J. Burnett and David Iddings were sworn in by the secretary. The old board was adjourned. The new board was organized with David Iddings as president (yes-4, abstain-1), Gene Morris as vice-president; Beverly Hunter as secretary (yes-4, abstain 1); and Debbie Ray as treasurer.

Election results were as follows: P.J. Burnett 50; Doug Baker 38; David Iddings 58; and Marlene Griffin 34.

Reading Summer School will be May 24 to June 21, with May 31 off for Memorial Day.

Sheri Steinman presented a review of the preschool and Parents as Teachers program. One significant concern is the lack of students for next year’s preschool class. The anticipated enrollment is currently two.

Superintendent Julie Kirby reported that Gov. Holden has released some funding for the schools. This amount will be $26,710 for North Daviess.

The board opened bids for lawn mowing from Clint Cole, Cody Cook, Alan McCrary, Derrick Iddings and Trevor Hunter. Beverly Hunter and David Iddings left the meeting to avoid a conflict of interest. The board accepted the bid by Cody Cook. (yes-4, abstain-2).

The financial statement was reported by Charlotte Claussen. Bills were paid as presented.

During old business, resignations were accepted from Jackie Gaddis and Carolyn Griffin. The CSIP Plan for 2004-2005 was approved.

The board reviewed suggestions for improvements to the facilities that have been reported by the staff. Priorities will be reviewed at the May meeting.

An evaluation of the Career Ladder program prepared by Keith Sarver was read to the board. The board approved it as presented.

The list of graduates recommended by Todd Willhite, high school principal, was approved.

During administrative reports, Sheri Steinman reported on the income generated by the recent elementary tournament.

Todd Willhite reported that students who scored a 3,4 or 5 on last year’s MAP attended a bowling activity to remind them to put forward their best effort during this year’s testing. He also presented a draft copy of an activities handbook.

Mrs. Kirby reported that Gallatin Lumber donated $500 in paint and stains to the agriculture department. The employee health insurance premium will increase by approximately $30 per month for next year.

The next regular meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Monday, May 17, at Coffey.
