Searcy elementary has 27 V.I.P.s and nine business partners
Each year, millions of volunteers across the country give their time and energy to help improve their communities. President Nixon declared the first National Volunteer Week in 1974 to recognize the service of outstanding volunteers. This year National Volunteer Week will be observed during the week of April 18-24.
Covel D. Searcy Elementary has two volunteer programs. Volunteer Important People, V.I.P, consists of approximately 27 parents, grandparents, and community members. Volunteers help students in many ways such as working as reading and writing partners and helping with math facts. They also lend a hand to the teachers by making learning games, filing, and running the copy machine. One specific group of volunteers has worked with Mrs. Jarboe for many years. They serve as listening partners for individual oral reading sessions.
The Partners In Education program has nine businesses involved with elementary classrooms. This program makes learning real for students, as they have the opportunity to see that what they are learning in class applies to the working world.
