Lake Viking Homemakers met bringing a sack lunch. Hostesses were not necessary. Vice- President Mary Lounsbery opened the meeting. Shirley Leakey gave the devotion. The roll call was “What we have bought at garage sales.” It was fun to hear why and what was bought. March minutes were read and approved. Finance report was given and approved. Each member present signed a card to be sent to Ann Fruits, Marge Revels and Ina Reznor. More discussion was held on the Lake Viking Homemakers Welcome Committee. Gallatin merchants are giving wonderful support by giving free gift certificates and items. For more information call Shirley Leeky at 663- 3744 or Marion Larrison at 663-2359. A bush was replaced in the club’s flower bed. The program was on cake decorating. Eleven items were given to Green Hills.
Xi Xi Beta, Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday, April 6, at the home of Misse Tolen. There were 11 members present. The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. The upcoming socials (garden party at Gina’s on April 13 and the Art Fair on May 1), Ways and Means, Legacy (Mother/Daughter Tea on April 30), Founder’s Day (April 17 at Seasons on the Square) and other chapter business was discussed. The program topic was Micro-Dermabrasion by Karen Creel. Next meeting will be at the home of Shirley Leakey at 7 on May 4.
Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met at Breadeaux on March 10 with five members and one guest. In the absence of Regent Jeannie Carpenter, Vice-Regent Beverly Ward began with a poem, “I’m Fine,” then led the opening ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance and the American Creed. Fallis Froman read a letter from the state regent informing the chapter that there are six pages of Missouri history in the new DAR magazine. Mrs. Froman gave the treasurer’s report and members voted to once again give a donation to the Gallatin Prom Lock-In, feeling it is a worthwhile activity for area youth. The secretary read the minutes and all present signed get well cards for Regent Jeannie Carpenter and member Evelyn Hockensmith. The Nominating Committee appointed was: Fallis Froman, Betty Huffman and Lucille Bruce to present the new state officers at the next meeting. Lucille Bruce presented a program on “Mildred (Babe) Didrikson Zaharias – Her Life” as we continued our year’s chapter theme “American Women Who Have Shaped Our Country’s History.” The meeting closed with St. Patrick’s Day games and refreshments served by hostess Fallis Froman. Next meeting is at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Nancy Terry on April 14.
