The Green Hills Missouri Probation and Parole Citizen’s Advisory Board is sponsoring an evening of information with regard to Crimes Against Children.
This program will be conducted in Harrison County at the Bethany Community Center, 105 N. 25th St., Bethany. The program will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 16.
The program will be presented in two sessions. The first session will be presented by Officer John Warner of the Columbia Police Department. Officer Warner is a veteran officer who has worked in many capacities. He is very experienced in regards to working with youth.
Officer Warner will present Music And Your Kids: Sex, Drugs, and Manic Depression. As parents, teachers, or anyone who is concerned about our children and youth, please come hear and see this presentation. It will inform you of the music our kids are listening to. If you haven’t listed to teen music in awhile, you may be surprised. Learn the possible effects that some lyrics may have on your children.
The second session will be presented by Detectives Mike Wilson and Fritz Adams. Both of these gentlemen are detectives with the St. Joseph Police Department.
These detectives are experienced and very knowledgeable with regard to computer safety and computer crimes. Wilson and Adams have experience and knowledge in catching individuals who would commit computer crimes, including sexual predators. They will display and discuss chat rooms and e-mail.
Parents and others will learn safety tips on the use of the home computer. People in attendance will see how easy it is for a sexual predator to find your child and victimize them.
The detectives will enlighten the audience on how to prevent the victimization of your children and youth on the Internet/home computer. They will also inform the audience of what action to take in case of suspicion and/or a crime committed on the Internet by a predator.
There is no charge for this event. Due to the content of the information, no one under the age of 18 will be admitted.
