Gallatin R-5 FFA member Erin Croy was selected as the new Area II Treasurer during area and state officer interviews held March 17 at Gallatin. Hattie Rains was selected as one of 30 sophomores in the state chosen for the Missouri Agribusiness Academy.
The District Ag Contest was held in Maryville on April 6. Top teams advance to Columbia April 15-16 for competition at the State FFA Convention.
First place in Ag Sales: Emily Gay, second individual; Michelle Chadwick, third individual; Melanie Jones, fourth individual; Erin Croy, eighth individual.
First place in Dairy Cattle Judging: Dillon Bird, high individual; Kate Jarboe, third individual; Levi Alden, eighth individual.
Second place in Poultry: Samantha Mott, third individual; Jamie Tummons, fifth individual. Third place in Entomology: Ben Weldon, sixth individual; Aaron Everly, eighth individual; Becky Macy, ninth individual.
Ag Mechanics received sixth place, John Runde, second individual. Livestock received eighth place; Forestry received 10th place, Sean Wood, 15th individual; Dairy Foods received 9th place; Floriculture received 10th place; Meats received 15th place; Horse Judging received 18th place.
District FFA Contest was held at Cameron on April 1. Hattie Rains placed first in the district in Ag II Speaking. Kari Youtsey placed second in Creed Speaking and the FFA Knowledge Team placed third with Jonathon Arnold as the fifth high individual.
The Gallatin FFA Chapter has had a busy and educational spring as they prepared for the district and state contests at several local events.
On March 9, the contest season kicked off as the Gallatin and Hamilton Chapters cooperated with about five other groups to hold the annual contest day. Gallatin FFA Chapter hosted the Dairy Judging Contest at the Cornelius Dairy near Hamilton where twenty-three teams took part. Green City was the winner and the Gallatin Chapter’s own Levi Alden was the high individual in the contest. Members also took part in Entomology, Forestry and Livestock Judging.
On March 4, the Poultry and Agronomy Teams enjoyed a trip to St. Joseph to work on their team activities. The Dairy Team judged at St. Joseph on March 6 and again at Eagleville on the 12th. They received fifth place on the 12th. Teams also judged at Brunswick on the 12th. High placing teams included Entomology, second place, with Ben Weldon as high individual in the contest.
FFA Knowledge placed third with Jonathon Arnold as the sixth high individual.
On March 16, the Gallatin Chapter sponsored an Entomology Contest in conjunction with North Central Missouri College at Trenton. They also won this competition and Ben Weldon was the second high individual. Aaron Everly placed third overall. The Horse Team also had a successful day, placing second in the contest.
Friday, March 19, was an extremely successful day for the Gallatin teams. The Dairy Cattle, Dairy Foods and Poultry Teams traveled to Queen City to take part in the Schuyler County Contest. The Poultry Team placed first, with Samantha Mott receiving high individual and Jamie Tummons placing third. The Dairy Foods Team placed second and Whitney Ray was the top individual. The Dairy Cattle Team was also second and Levi Alden was the second high scorer in this contest. Teams also participated in the Lathrop Contest that day. The Entomology Team came home with first place. Ben Weldon was second high individual.
The FFA Knowledge Team placed second and the Livestock Team placed seventh. Ethan Merrigan was the ninth individual. Other teams competing included Agronomy, Forestry and Meats.
