Katie Patton elected FCCLA state president, 18 advance to Nationals, Gallatin receives Most Active Chapter Award

“Come Aboard the FCCLA LeaderSHIP” was the theme for the annual state FCCLA conference held March 27-30 in Columbia. Several Gallatin FCCLA members did just that boarded the ship and brought home various chapter awards.

Katie Patton, daughter of Steven and Alice Patton, was elected the 2004-05 Missouri State President. Katie was formerly the state vice president from Region 2. She ran for state president by giving speeches and answering questions from the voting delegates.

FCCLA members advancing to national competition in Chicago, Ill., on July 10-15 are: Alyssa Strein and Danielle Critten, Illustrated Talk Junior; Ayrica Batson, Karly Goll, Jonathan Arnold, Kirsten Bowe, Katy Black, Robyn Creel, Emily Michener and Kathryn Everly, Parliamentary Procedure Junior; and Keira Story, Allison Lockridge, Brittney Hixson, Whitney Boyd, Lindsey Robertson, Kyle Hefley, Kinsey Batson and Whitney Wright, Parliamentary Procedure Senior.

The chapter received the award for Most Active Chapter for schools with up to 400 students and also received recognition for participating in the Families First National Program. Kathy Robertson, Gallatin FCCLA advisor, received the Excellence in Advising Award.

Thirty-three Gallatin members were among the 1,800 in attendance at this year’s conference. Katie Ward, a 2003-2004 state vice-president, helped conduct the leadership conference. The meeting opened with Tiana Tozer, the keynote speaker.

Twenty-eight of Gallatin’s members were among 500 participating in STAR Events.

Those receiving gold were Amy Hudlemeyer, Career Investigation Junior; Allie Michener and Haleigh Tague, Chapter Showcase Manual Senior; Alyssa Strein and Danielle Critten, Illustrated Talk Junior; Alli McLaughlin and Melanie Jones, National Programs in Action Senior; Ayrica Batson, Karly Goll, Jonathan Arnold, Kirsten Bowe, Katy Black, Robyn Creel, Emily Michener and Kathryn Everly, Parliamentary Procedure Junior; and Keira Story, Allison Lockridge, Brittney Hixson, Whitney Boyd, Lindsey Robertson, Kyle Hefley, Kinsey Batson and Whitney Wright, Parliamentary Procedure Senior.

Those receiving silver were Andy Ward and Logan Corwin, Applied Technology Junior; Kayce Corwin, Career Investigation Senior; and Lindy Stanhope, Impromptu Speaking Senior.

Those receiving bronze were Melissa Everman and Jennifer Guffey, Applied Technology Senior.

Other Gallatin FCCLA members receiving recognition were Katie Ward, Karly Goll and Kayce Corwin for completing all five Power of One units, and Kinsey Batson, Lindsey Robertson and Katie Ward for recruiting five new members for the Member Quest 2004 program.

Also attending the state leadership conference were Wanda Batson and Melissa Craig as judges, Kara Kloepping as a voting delegate, Whitney Ray as a chapter delegate, and Sandy Ward and Karla Michener as chaperones.
