Laureate Delta Rho met April 5 at the home of Lois Barton with 13 members present. Everyone was glad to welcome back all the snow birds. Linda Bridgeman, service chairperson, will send $25 to After Prom Lock-In Fund. Linda will also contact Jerry Batson, Gallatin High School counselor, for applications for scholarship awards, so we may choose the recipient of the Jean Groom Scholarship for 2004. The next meeting will be at Nita Cragg’s home on April 19. Lois Barton presented a program displaying furniture, equipment inventory and photos of Jack Barton’s uncle’s jewelry, watch repair and optometrist business from the 1940s.
Corinthian Chapter #112 O.E.S. will have their official visit at 8 p.m. on April 8. All members are urged to attend.
Alpha Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met April 3 at the Cameron Special Education Meeting Room with 15 members present.
Barbara Mahoney gave a power point presentation of “No Child Left Behind”. Most members participated in a round table discussion of the pros and cons of this issue in the classroom as it applied to each particular school represented.
Julie Lupfer, President, was in charge of the meeting. After the pledge to the flag, the Club Collect, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Song, Jeanie Harris read the minutes of the last meeting. Roll Call was answered by “What is Your Favorite Easter Tradition”. Jackie Taylor gave the Treasurer’s report and committee reports were given. She reported $139.75 was collected last month to given to World Fellowship. Baskets were won by Barb Mahoney and Vivian Bowman.
President Lupfer lead a review on knowledge of “Founder’s Day” by playing Bingo. Martha Downey, Bethany, is a Charter member of Alpha Pi and gave an interesting account of how the chapter was started. This chapter was formed on April 1, 1967 at Gallatin, Missouri. She had her first program book, invitation, and candle from that meeting. Martha will soon be 93 years of age.
It was announced that Janice Bryant of Hamilton has received the $400 Recruitment Grant for the fall semester from Alpha Pi. She will be an education major at North Central Missouri College at Trenton.
Installation of officers was conducted by Betty Weigand, Cameron: president, Judy Hinkle, Bethany; first vice president Carol Wiedmier, Braymer; second vice president, Virginia Hollon, Norborne; secretary, Jeanie Harris, Cameron; treasurer, Jackie Taylor, Braymer; corresponding secretary, Joyce Smith, Blythedale; parliamentarian, Julie Lupfer, McFall.
The Braymer ladies were hostesses. Vivian Bowman attended from the Gallatin area.
