Funeral services for Leland Carter, formerly of Pattonsburg, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be in McFall Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post #2176 and American Legion Post #216, Bethany, and VFW Post #5329 and American Legion Post #106, Albany. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where friends may call anytime after 9 a.m. Saturday. Leland Dean Carter, 76, Bethany, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at a North Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Carter was born on Dec. 15, 1927, in Daviess County, the son of Elbert and Daisy Faye (Moad) Carter.
He served in the Navy.
On Dec. 26, 1949, he married Marjorie “Eloise” Mooney. They were married for 47 years. She died on July 26, 1996. On Aug. 10, 1997, he married Elaine Walker. She survives of the home.
Mr. Carter worked at the Pioneer Cap Manufacturing plant in Pattonsburg and later was the assistant manager at the cap factory in Grant City, until his retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pattonsburg.
Mr. Carter was also preceded in death by six infant siblings; three brothers, Jack, Leo, and Jacob Carter; and a grandson, Russell Carter Steele.
Other survivors include one son, Leland “Wayne” Carter of Albany; two daughters, Marjorie Elaine Steele of Creston, Iowa, and Bonnie Kay Hills of Sidney, Iowa; three brothers, Elbert Carter, Jr. of St. Joseph, Donald Carter of Bethany, and Frank Carter of Bethany; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
