On Feb. 23 and 24 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hosted two one-day workshops for 133 librarians and state library staff to address the issue of sustaining public access computing in rural libraries.
The focus of these one-day workshops was to provide small, rural librarians and state library directors a guided forum for discussion and hands-on work. With the assistance of Sandra Nelson, librarians worked together to identify barriers to maintaining public access, share best practices already in place, and explore potential strategies for sustaining and expanding public access computing.
Jan Johnson, director of Daviess County Library, was one of the two Missouri librarians asked to attend this workshop. She was also able to attend the Public Library Association’s 2004 convention in Seattle while there.
