Area II State FFA Vice President Brook Carder, and the rest of the state FFA officer team attended Legislative Day, Feb. 17, at the State Capital Building in Jefferson City. The officer team was extended an invitation to be introduced to the Missouri House and Senate in recognition of National FFA Week, which was Feb. 22-29.

The event was sponsored by Representative John Quinn, and Senator David Klindt. The objective of the activity was to help the officers become more acquainted with the responsibilities of their government leaders, how they serve the citizens of Missouri and learn more about how our government functions.

Following the state officer team introduction on the House and Senate floor, State FFA President Gina Eckler gave the address on FFA and agriculture issues and their future.

The officer team continued their legislative day with a tour through the capital. They climbed many flights of stairs to get to the top of the capital rotunda. There they could whisper to one another on one side of the dome and be heard on the other side. They also got to walk outside the dome and view Jefferson City from the tiptop of the Capital building where they could see for miles. Ms. Carder says, “It was amazing, you could see for miles.”

The highlight of the day was a luncheon where Brook and fellow state officers got to meet with their representatives and senators. Brook met Sen. David Klindt and had the pleasure of speaking with Rep. Jim Whorton and his wife. Brook said, “They were very friendly, down home and welcoming. I enjoyed my conversation with them.”

Then to top the day off, Rep. Whorton presented Brook with a Missouri House of Representative Resolution signed by him and Speaker of the House Catherine L. Hanaway. Brook said she was very honored to receive the resolution. She added that she would like every Missouri citizen to experience our government in action and to visit the capital and learn the history of our great state of Missouri.
