When Gallatin Bulldog golfers hit the links for next Monday’s season opener at Bethany, they will do so with a squad featuring eight returnees from a year ago and all five golfers back from last season’s squad that finished second in the conference meet, second at district and seventh at the Class 1 state meet.

“We hope to challenge for conference and district titles and improve on last year’s state finish,” said GHS boys golf coach Chris Elbert.

Senior Duke Burge was the team’s most consistent golfer and scoring average leader last season. He finished first at conference, second at district and should compete for a top 15 spot at state this year.

Senior Pat Dickinson was an all-district performer last year who improved a great deal and finished 35th at state. He will be looked upon to provide leadership to this year’s team.

Junior Aaron Everly completed last season with the second best scoring average on the team. He was the most improved golfer and should benefit a great deal from the work he put in this past summer.

Junior Garett Houghton placed seventh at conference last season. Coach Elbert looks for him to be an improved and more consistent golfer this season.

Sophomore Dillon Bird won a spot on varsity last season as a freshman. His practice over the summer should pay off in better and more consistent play this year.

Junior Sean Wood is the team’s top returning JV golfer who could see some varsity time this year.

Junior Jake Gardner returns for his third season. He shows potential and needs to continue developing his game.

Senior Mark Robbins returns for his third season, as well. He has already shown considerable improvement in early practices.

Brandon Meseberg, Ethan Merrigan and Nick Rogers are freshmen taking up the game for the first time. They are working hard in preparation for the first meet, Coach Elbert said.
