When the competition narrowed from 35 students to just two, eighth grader Brianna Weber of North Daviess R-3 correctly spelled conscience to win the Daviess County Spelling Bee held at Winston R-6 elementary school on Monday, Feb. 23. Brianna is the daughter of Michael and Janellda Weber.
Abbey Ray, sixth grader at Gallatin R-5, received second place. Abbey is the daughter of Spencer and Michelle Ray.
Brianna and Abbey will both participate in the regional spelling bee at St. Joseph, sponsored by the St. Joseph News-Press. Finalists in that competition will advance to nationals.
Rhyse Curtis, eighth grader at Pattonsburg R-2, received third place and will act as alternate. Rhyse is the son of Roseanna Curtis.
Trophies were presented to all county finalists, sponsored by Gallatin Publishing Company.
Thirty-five students, two each from grades five through eight from all five Daviess County public schools, competed in the county spelling bee.
