Harold Whtetstone, 75, Ames, Iowa, died Feb. 11, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames.
A celebration of life for Harold Lloyd Whetstone, formerly of Pattonsburg, were held Sunday, Feb. 15, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, Iowa. Burial was in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Harold Whtetstone, 75, Ames, Iowa, died Feb. 11, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
Mr. Whetstone was born Aug. 13, 1928, the son of Roy Elsey and Anna Elizabeth (Willis) Whetstone. He grew up in Pattonsburg.
Mr. Whetstone served in the Army from 1955-57.
He was employed with the Iowa State University campus police department for eight years. He retired from the Ames Fire Department as a captain on March 1, 1973, after 15 years of service. He was assistant director of building and grounds maintenance for the Ames Public Schools for 17 years, retiring on June 30, 1990.
Mr. Whetstone was a member of American Legion Post 37; founding member of Klassy Kruisers Car Club; past member of Tall Corn Car Club; and past board member of River Valley Credit Union.
He married Edna Larson on May 1, 1953, in Nevada.
He was preceded in death by six siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Edna, of Ames; three daughters, Clarice Sharp of Danville, Va., Kim Noble of Ankeny, and Sr. Brenda Whetstone of Dubuque; two sons, Jerry Whetstone of Altoona, and Bob Whetstone of Ames; one brother, John of Lakewood, Calif; one sister, Mary Stembridge of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; a niece Rita Frye of Kansas City area; and a cousin, R.J. Williams, of Gallatin.
