Amblyopia vision screening offered to all children ages four months to five years in the Gallatin R-5 School District.
Gallatin Parents as Teachers and the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation will collaborate to offer a free Amblyopia vision screening to all children ages four months to five years in the Gallatin R-5 School District.
Amblyopia is poor vision in an eye that did not develop normal sight during early childhood. It is sometimes called “lazy eye.”
When one eye develops good vision while the other does not, the eye with poorer vision is amblyopic. Usually, only one eye is affected by amblyopia, but it is possible for both eyes to be “lazy.”
The condition is common, affecting approximately two or three out of every 100 people. The best time to correct amblyopia is during infancy or early childhood. Call Patty Shipley, parent educator, or Kay Woodruff, secretary, at Searcy Elementary School at 663-2173 to schedule your child for this very valuable screening.
There is no charge as the costs of this program are covered by the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation. The date for the screening in Monday, Feb. 23.
