Gallatin’s boys used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to build a comfortable lead and kept Maysville on the ropes the rest of the way with a barrage of three-point buckets. The Bulldogs cut the net for 13 three-pointers and easily took their third Grand River Conference victory of the season with an 80-50 romp.
With the win, the Bulldogs stayed alive in a league race boiling down to the final two weeks of the season. Gallatin faces a crucial contest at home on Friday against South Harrison, which moved to 4-0 in the conference (12-4 overall) Tuesday night with a 71-45 victory over Worth County. Hamilton, the other frontrunner, knocked off King City, 59-48, to improve to 5-0 in GRC play and 15-2 overall. The Hornets travel to Princeton on Friday.
The Bulldogs homed in with the long range shot early when Jeremiah Gibson and Duke Burge nailed first quarter attempts. Gibson popped two treys in the first quarter, three in the second and added another in the third period to finish with six and a game-high 27 points. Burge added single three-pointers in the second and third quarters and totaled 13 points. Aaron Everly came off the bench late, hit three long range attempts and finished with 11 points. Nic Burrell also subbed in in the final quarter and made one three-point attempt.
Colby Swanstone hit four field goals and five of seven shots from the free throw line to total 13 points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 15-3 overall and 3-1 in the GRC.
The Wolverines popped four treys in the game, three by Jake Huffaker, who finished with 11 points. Justin Pearl spread his team-leading 13 points across all four quarters.
