A Kansas man received serious injuries in a three vehicle accident at 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Daviess County.

The accident occurred as Lee Wolff was traveling southbound on I-35 about one mile south of Pattonsburg. He attempted to pass a vehicle driven by Paul Nelson and struck the vehicle in the driver’s side. The Wolff vehicle went out of control, crossed the median and was struck in the passenger side by a semi driven by Carrillo Salvador.

Mr. Wolff was ejected. His vehicle came to rest on the northbound shoulder.

Mr. Nelson, 63, St. James, Minn., pulled to the shoulder. The vehicle driven by Mr. Salvador, 38, Lynwood, Calif., came to rest on the northbound shoulder. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Mr. Wolff, 23, Riley, Kan., was taken by Harrison County Ambulance to Harrison County Community Hospital. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt.

Mr. Wolff’s 1996 Chevrolet was totaled. Mr. Salvador’s 2003 International Eagle received extensive damage. Both were towed by Bridgeman of Altamont. Mr. Nelson’s 1998 Lincoln received minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.P. Lynch, assisted by Cpl. M.R. Heits, and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
