Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Hawks to two field goals in the first half on their way to a 67-21 win.
Gallatin varsity basketball teams overwhelmed visiting Gilman City Tuesday night, winning both contests by 40-plus margins. The Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Hawks to two field goals in the first half on their way to a 67-21 win. The Bulldogs scorched the net for 26 first-quarter points on their way to a 67-22 victory.
The GHS girls rolled to a 17-0 lead out of the gate before Vanessa Allen put the Lady Hawks on the scoreboard. Allen scored again inside the final minute of the second quarter but Gallatin took a 40-4 advantage into the break.
All 15 Lady Bulldogs saw playing time and all but one put points on the board. Lindsey Robertson found double figures with 12 points. Katie Ward and Brittney Hixson each notched eight points for Gallatin. Trisha Sprague contributed seven points while Emily Gay and Kinsey Batson each chipped in six.
Allen finished with 12 points for Gilman City. Randee Prindle added nine.
Gallatin’s boys caused havoc early with a trapping defense near the midcourt stripe. Kyle Hefley, Jeremiah Gibson and Colby Swanstone forced several turnovers in the opening minutes with Hefley the beneficiary of four early layups. The Bulldogs led, 26-6, after the opening period and moved to 42-13 at the half when Aaron Everly canned an NBA-three-pointer at the buzzer.
Swanstone led the group of 13 GHS scorers with 13 points. Hefley also reached double figures with 12. Gibson, along with Jason McGee, contributed six points to the GHS total. Everly, Andrew Adkison and Pat Dickinson each knocked down five points.
Caleb Wilson led the Hawks with 10 points.
The seeding meeting for January’s Lawson Invitational Tournament will be held tonight. Gallatin’s girls can likely expect no higher than a fourth seed in their bracket, despite a 4-2 record. Smithville, Hamilton and Lawson will likely draw the top three spots. Gallatin’s unbeaten and state-ranked boys will face their toughest competition of the season when they tackle a field that includes Smithville, West Platte, Hamilton, Lawson, Richmond, Lexington and Carrollton.
Gallatin varsity teams tip off for the final time in 2003 when they host the Trenton Bulldogs Friday night.
