Friday night’s consolation game.
Gallatin’s girls captured their 15th consecutive GIT trophy by beating Tri-County, 59-35, in Friday night’s consolation game. The Lady Bulldogs took a four-day rest into the game after Winston was forced to forfeit Wednesday due to a shortage of players.
The Lady Mustangs proved to be tough first-quarter opponents as the lead changed hands five times before Gallatin scored back-to-back to end the stalemate. Emily Gay beat the buzzer with a putback of her own missed layup and gave the Lady Bulldogs a 13-9 advantage. Sparked by the post play of Keira Story and outside shooting of Lindsey Robertson, Gallatin surged to a 33-20 lead by intermission.
Gallatin outscored Tri-County, 17-10, in the third quarter to take a untouchable 50-30 lead into the final quarter.
Robertson, who earned the tournament’s MVP award with her shooting prowess, finished with six three-pointers and 21 points. Her two-game total of 12 treys fell two short of Erin Sweatman’s 14 three-points during three games of the 2001 tournament.
Trisha Sprague reached double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points. Story finished with 8 points. High scorer for Tri-County was Megan Stout with 11 points.
