Given the cold temperatures and inclement weather plus winter illness such as flu, the American Red Cross traditionally experiences a significant decline in blood donations during this time of year. To help maintain adequate blood supply levels, the Red Cross is holding a blood drive at the Winston Pit Stop, on US Highway 69, Winston from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15 on the American Red Cross Donor Coach. All presenting donors will be entered in a drawing and one
lucky donor will receive a $20 dollar gift certificate for gas, compliments of the Winston Pit Stop.
All donors must present identification prior to donating.
Every day, patients in hospitals rely on volunteer blood donations in order to receive the blood and blood products they need to survive. The Red Cross relies on these same volunteers to give approximately 25,000 blood donations daily, nationwide, in order to maintain the blood supply and to maximize the ability to respond to any type of disaster. In the Missouri-Illinois Region, the Red Cross needs approximately 1,200 donations of whole blood every day in order to serve patients in the 120 hospitals and 130 counties that make up the region. And the need continues.
