Barbara Brummitt, 70, Lemons, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville after an extended illness.

Funeral services for Barbara Brummitt were held Saturday at the Luscan Funeral Home in Unionville. Burial was in the Scobee Cemetery, near Pollock. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Putnam County Health Department or to the Putnam County Care Center and contributions may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.

Barbara Brummitt, 70, Lemons, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville after an extended illness.

Mrs. Brummitt was born on May 1, 1933, near Milan, the daughter of Curtis Alexander and Ivah Bell (Clark) Whitaker. While Mrs. Brummitt was at a young age, the family moved southeast of Browning, where she attended the Knifong school.

In 1949, she married John Wesley Brummitt. The couple lived on their farm near Pollock for 34 years before moving to Lemons in 1983 due to her health.

Mrs. Brummitt was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church near Pollock and was baptized in 1981.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Richard “Dick” Brummitt, A Brookfield police officer injured in the lien of duty in 1998 and who died in 1999; and one sister, Dollie Whitaker Brummit.

Mrs. Brummitt is survived by her husband John of Lemons; two daughters, Vickie Lee (Smith) Tolen of Jamesport, and Penny Waggoner of Maryville; two sisters, Fern Haffner and Jean Hale, both of Green City; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
