Nov. 17 through Dec. 1
The Gallatin Police Department will be actively participating in the annual ‘Click-It-or Ticket’ Seat Belt Use Mobilization that will run from Nov. 17 through Dec. 1 of this year. Though the emphasis is on the use of safety restraints in cars by all occupants it brings special emphasis on the use of these safety devices by children.
Activities will include checkpoints to check for seat belt, child seat and enhanced child restraint system use by motorists in Missouri and nationally.
The Gallatin Police Department will be conducting these checkpoints in high traffic areas, especially around the schools. Patrol emphasis will also be directed at observing vehicles around town that have children in them that are not in the appropriate restraints [child seats or boosters and seat belts].
Citations and warnings will be issued to anyone stopped who has an unrestrained child or infant in the vehicle.
“We appreciate that Gallatin is blessed by drivers who operate their vehicles very safely as reflected in the low incidence of automobile accidents,” said Gallatin Police Chief Jim Wycoff. “But it is still important that we properly utilize our seat belts and restrain our children in the appropriate seat, booster seat or seat belt systems. It only takes one accident to produce a tragic outcome for an unrestrained child and his or her family.”
