The Beta Phi Mu Award for Excellence in Librarianship for 2003 has been awarded to Jan Johnson, Director, Daviess County Public Library.

Each year the Psi Chapter of Beta Phi Mu Offers the Beta Phi Mu Award For Excellence in Librarianship. The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to the library community in Missouri.

Mrs. Johnson has been director since May 1, 1979. While director, she has achieved a remarkable list of accomplishments, including the move of the library to a much larger location, grant funding for computers, and recovery following flood damage.

The Daviess County Library Board of Trustees who commended her for her professionalism and dedication to the library community nominated her for the Award of Excellence in Librarianship.

Beta Phi Mu is a national honor society of librarians. The Missouri Chapter is affiliated with the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies at the University of Missouri – Columbia.
