Knee-Hi 4-H Club; Brushy Squirrel 4-H Club of Jamesport; Laureate Delta Rho; Alpha Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
Laureate Delta Rho met Oct. 6 at the lake home of Nancy Salmon. Tickets for the Holiday Home Tour will be available for sale after our next meeting on Oct. 20. The meeting place has been changed to Linda Adkins’ home with a surprise Halloween party. Members voted to donate $25 to the Daviess County Swim Program. Kailey and Karley Salmon, granddaughters of Nancy Salmon, entertained the sorority with their dance routines.
The Knee-Hi 4-H Club met on Oct. 8 at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall. The pledges were said and roll call was taken by responding to the question “What is your favorite Halloween candy?” The candidates for the six offices were introduced and they explained to the club why they should be elected to that office. The members proceeded to vote and turn in their enrollment forms along with wrapping paper orders. This year’s officers will be: Erin Croy, president; Casey Alden, vice-president; Kaley Sheldon, secretary; Wren Tolen, treasurer; Kyle Croy, reporter; and Danielle Ness, historian. Following the elections the club discussed their participation in the Homecoming Parade and the dates for 4-H Day at the American Royal. Recognition Night will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. at the Jamesport School.
Alicia Chrisman gave the health tip about the ADA recommending that all Halloween candy be eaten within three to four days to reduce tooth decay. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall. The Knee-H 4-H Club met on Sept. 10 for their annual barbecue and enrollment. Leader Alicia Chrisman passed out enrollment forms and Katie Ketcham, 4-H youth specialist, explained the new volunteer forms. National 4-H Week is Oct. 5-11. The club attended the Methodist Church to observe 4-H Sunday. The members will be selling Innisbrook wrapping paper and Home Interior candles for their annual fund-raiser. The members participated in the Chautauqua parade and had a tattoo booth. The club was also responsible for trash pick-up during Chautauqua.
Brushy Squirrel 4-H Club of Jamesport had church together on Sunday before last at Jamesport Church of Christ. Club members decorated the bulletin board at school and picked up trash at the city park. Their next meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Jamesport.
The Alpha Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met on October 4, 2003 at the Virginia George Elementary Library at Albany. There were 11 members and 1 guest present.
Jani York, Albany, and first grade teacher at South Harrison presented the program on Sign Language. She told about her classroom experiences with the hearing impaired and explained its use in the regular classroom. American sign language is used and she showed us games and books that she implements in her teaching. We experienced using sign language by signing the Pledge to the American flag. The program was enjoyed by all who attended. President Julie Lupfer from McFall was in charge of the meeting. After the Delta Kappa Gamma Song, and the Club Collect the treasurers report was given by Jackie Taylor of Braymer. Roll Call was answered by using sign language. Vice President, Judy Hinkle from Bethany, handed out the 2003-04 year books. Toys for Childrens Mercy Hospital were collected and also money to be given to Second Harvest at the December meeting. That meeting will be in St. Joseph.
Julie Lupfer and Barbara Mahoney were hostesses. Vivian Bowman attended from the Gallatin area.
