The Gallatin Board of aldermen’s meeting time has been changed to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20. This rescheduled business meeting will include discussion on the repeal of a recently enacted ordinance limiting new installation of propane gas tanks within the city limits.
The repeal is prompted by a lawsuit filed Oct. 3 in U.S. Western District Court by the Missouri Propane Gas Association on behalf of area propane businesses. As was previously reported, City Administrator Toby Dougherty will recommend that the ordinance be repealed since its enactment was based on a misinterpretation of Missouri statutes.
The ordinance was approved Sept. 22, without prior notice to the public, as a means to make the municipal natural gas utility more attractive for investors. The natural gas system is financially distressed, and city officials are working to position the system so that refinancing can be secured. City meetings are open to the public, usually held in the GIDA board room.
