County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting several bridges that have been repaired.

The commission discussed a request by landowners in Benton Township for road improvements on approximately 1/4 mile of Cord Avenue. CART road #341 in Section 8 will be added to the CART program when specs are met. The commission requires the landowner to apply 300 ton per mile of base rock after the road has been ditched and graded properly. The county will fund one-half of the base.

The commissioners reported having attended the Northwest Missouri County Commissioners’ Association meeting in Linn County on Sept. 18.

Reta Rains filed her training certificate from the Missouri County Treasurer’s Association.

Notification was received from the Missouri Department of Transportation that federal funds have been allocated for BRO project (24) over Sampson Creek. This allocation is for the preliminary engineering phase and the engineering firm was notified to proceed.

The commission discussed the new concealed weapons bill enacted by the state legislature recently and due to go into effect on Oct. 11. The bill allows courthouses not solely occupied by court to rule by governing body to prohibit firearms in the courthouse. An attorney from the Missouri Association of Counties is developing the draft resolution.

Bills were audited and paid.

Betty Harmison, assessor, met with the commission concerning assessment changes with new owners.

David Tolen reported that he had reviewed the Emergency Operating Plan submitted last week and had made updates and returned the plan to the Louis Berger Group, contracted by the State Emergency Management Agency.
