The 70th Annual Elderly Dinner and program was held at the Altamont Community Hall on Sept. 24.
The 70th Annual Elderly Dinner and program was held at the Altamont Community Hall on Sept. 24. The theme was “The Animal Kingdom.”
The noon invocation was given by Pastor Marilyn Dorst. Carry-out dinners were delivered to Charles and Marlene Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stitt.
The afternoon program was opened with Velma Talbott giving the welcome. A program of music was by Deloris Read, piano, Jack Toney, guitar; and Betty Huffman, violin. Betty McKown led the people with a sing along. Velma Talbott had a game session: “What Will We See and Feed the Animals?” Stuffed animals were given as prizes.
Francie Toney and Susie Walton gave the memorial: Animals and pets that were part of our loved ones’ lives on the farm. Francie read a poem “The Rainbow Bridge,” depicting people and pets being reunited at Heaven’s gate.
Former Altamont area residents that have passed away during the past year are: Jerry McLaughlin, Mike Sloan, Harold Lee, Frances Beck, Jewell Schoolfield and Mildred Sloan.
The most mature lady present was Pearle Everman, 89, and the most mature gentleman was Glenn Everman, 88, of Cameron. Linda Lollar was the youngest lady present. Reva Burke was given a gift for traveling the greatest distance, Kansas City.
It was nice to see friends, neighbors and retirees gather for this event planned by Velma Talbott and Donna Cline, our president and vice president for 2003.
Mary Merritt donated embroidered hand towels, that she had made, as door prizes.
Attending this year’s event were: Maxine Fulk, Nona H. Bird, Betty McKown, Don and Velma Talbott, Mary Ellen Barker, Ruth McLaughlin, Betty Huffman, Glenn and Pearle Everman, Mary Merritt, Bea (Sailor) Reager, Jack and Francie Toney, Marvin and Linda Lollar, Clara Macrander, Nina Allen, Ruth and Duane Frost, Alice Ayers, Myrtle Teel, Margaret Meseberg, Sam and Deloris Read, Don and Margaret Townsend, Tokey Sue Gardner, Glenda Rogers, Goldena Macrander, Marilyn Dorst, Louse McFee, Reva Burke, Donna Cline, Marilyn Peterson, Kay Turner, Susie Walton.
The same committee persons were elected for next year’s event, which is the last Wednesday in September, 2004.
