For the second game in a row, runs proved to be hard to come by for the Lady Bulldogs.
Senior Emily Greenwood spun a 2-hit shutout Tuesday afternoon as Hamilton defeated Gallatin, 5-0, in Grand River Conference softball at the GHS field. The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 2-3 in league play and 5-7 overall.
Greenwood gave up a 2-out single to Brittney Hixson in the 1st inning, then retired 18 in a row before Lindsey Love’s 2-out single in the bottom of the 7th. The Lady Hornets played error-free softball behind Greenwood’s 7-strikeout, no-walk performance.
Hamilton scored 3 times in the 3rd inning and added 2 more tallies in the 5th against Bulldog starting pitcher Lindsey Robertson, who blanked the Lady Hornets over the final two frames.
A 10-run 5th inning propelled Lawson’s Lady Cardinals to a 10-0, rule-shortened victory over Gallatin on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs managed only one hit, a Lindsey Robertson double, in 5 innings. Lindsey Love took the loss on the mound.
Gallatin’s softball girls travel to King City Thursday for GRC action. The Lady Bulldogs have also added a date to their calendar when they make up a rained out game against Worth County on Oct. 7. In all likelihood, the rained out Trenton game (9/18) will not be rescheduled.
Hamilton Tourney on Saturday
The Lady Bulldogs head to Hamilton Saturday for the 2nd Annual Penney High School Girls Softball Tournament. Both varsity and junior varsity teams will play three games each. Following is the schedule for the tournament:
