Two young girls participating in the Daviess County Relay for Life donated more than their time and effort during the events unfolding on the Gallatin business square recently. Twelve-year-old Kendra Reed and Amanda Huffman, cut their hair as a gift to cancer victimized children through the Locks of Love program.
This Florida-based program provides custom, vacuum-fitted hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children with long-term medical hair loss. Only hair measuring at least 10 inches in length is accepted — so the donation by Kendra and Amanda was significant.
Kendra is the daughter of Kathi Reed of Gallatin and Kurtis Springer of Kansas City, and the granddaughter of Sandra King. Amanda is the daughter of Mike and Viola Huffman of Gallatin.
Kendra donated her locks in memory of Sandra King, her grandmother. Amanda donated her locks in memory of Teresa Gay, her aunt.
Locks of Love presented a Certificate of Appreciation to both Kendra and Amanda from the board of directors, staff, volunteers and the children who will benefit from their hair donation.
