Funeral services for Jewell Schoolfield were held Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Woods Memorial Christian Church in Excelsior Springs, with arrangements were by Prichard Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Interment was at Bethel Cemetery in Kearney.

Jewell B “Red” Schoolfield, 81, Altamont, formerly of Excelsior Springs, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003.

Mr. Schoolfield was born Sept. 17, 1921.

During the 1940’s, he served in the Army Air Corp.

Mr. Schoolfield worked at General Motors for 31 years.

He was active in Boy Scouts.

He was married to Carrie Samuel Schoolfield for 40 years. She died in 1989. He later married Florence Swearingen Howard. They were married for 13 years.

Mr. Schoolfield was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Lee Schoolfield.

Survivors include his children, Bob and Wilma Curtis of Kansas City, David Schoolfield of Excelsior Springs, Daniel Schoolfield of Atlanta, Ga., Orville Grimes of Excelsior Springs; sister, Helen Rimmer of Excelsior Springs; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
