Gallatin City Administrator Toby Dougherty discussed the lowering of natural gas rates with the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held Monday, Aug. 11, at city hall. The gas rate had been locked in at $10.65 per thousand cubic foot for residential customers through March, 2004, unless there are extreme weather conditions this winter. The natural gas rate is equal to .98 cents per gallon propane.
Police Chief Jim Wycoff stated that the red Crown Victoria is in need of being replaced. He is going to start looking for a new vehicle.
Sgt. Mark Richards is currently away at the Highway Patrol Academy for training. Chief Wycoff is a Post Certified Instructor now. He is in the process of purchasing bullet proof vests for the officers.
Chief Wycoff announced that the Teen Beat pool party last Friday raised about $600.
Mayor Thomas inquired of the chief about who owned a building on Main Street that is need of repairs.
Alderman Griffin told Chief Wycoff that she has had complaints of four wheelers, bicycles, skateboards and roller blades being used in unsafe areas. He said he would observe those areas.
Bills in the amount of $152,306.76 were approved for payment.
City Administrator Dougherty discussed an audit he conducted on the city’s phone system and found some ways to decrease the city’s costs.
Alderman Becky Wycoff attended the last Fire Board Meeting to discuss the VFW meetings at the fire station.
Alderman Bob Snidow inquired about which streets are being paved this year.
Discussion was held on the application for a new business which was tabled until the next meeting.
Discussion was held on the natural gas payment. An ordinance amending the Gallatin City Code relating to the establishment of natural gas rates was approved after first and second reading.
Mayor Thomas inquired if poles on Park Street could be removed. The poles were placed there for safety reasons and should stay. Mayor Thomas also had a complaint about no light on East James. There is no electric line in that area for a light.
City Administrator Dougherty discussed security lights and he is pricing insurance rates for the city property and vehicles.
Mr. Dougherty also discussed possible solutions for the natural gas system to be considered by the board.
During comments by aldermen, Norma Griffin stated that Marilyn Gunzenhauser wanted to thank the city for the wonderful job on the streets. She also had a person inquire about burial of ashes on a cemetery lot they own.
Bob Snidow inquired about weeds at a home on Corrine. He would also like to give high praise to the street crew for the job they are doing this year on the streets.
Gene Caldwell stated that he had a complaint about the new carport put in by the police department.
Mayor Thomas has concerns about the city not having a disaster plan and that the city does not have a Chamber of Commerce.
During public comment, Gene Schweizer discussed the natural gas payment.
