Tom Brown Croy, 85, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron. Services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gallatin or The American Diabetes Association.
Tom was born March 25, 1918 to Fleet E. and Hazel “Brown” Croy near Gallatin. He graduated from Jamesport High School in 1935. Tom was an Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the South Pacific. He received numerous citations including the Purple Heart.
On May 9, 1945 Tom married Elsie Boor in Troy, Kansas. Tom and Elsie made their home in Gallatin where Tom was employed as a salesman for the Gallatin Motor Company and Blackburn and Hockensmith Motors. He was later employed by the Gallatin Post Office as a rural letter carrier for 22 years before retiring.
Tom was a member of the Gallatin First Baptist Church. He was a retired deacon and a long time Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
Tom Brown was a devoted husband and a loving father. He had a friendly and outgoing personality which resulted in him having numerous friends throughout the community.
Tom is preceded in death by a sister Dorthea Patridge.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elsie, of the home, 2 sons, Tom and wife Maxine Croy, Great Bend, Kansas; Bob and wife Chris Croy, Overland Park, Kansas; grandson Scott and wife Michelle Croy, Bartlett, Tennessee; other grandchildren, T.C. Croy and fiancee Sarah Scheib, Doug and Stephen Croy, Cara Peterson and husband Bronz, Caitlin Croy; great grandchildren, Brandon and Drew Croy, Cameron Schieb.
