Chautauqua unfolds on Gallatin square Sept. 19-21

The 2003 Daviess County Chautauqua will be held Sept. 19-21 on the Gallatin square.

Friday night activities kick off at 7 p.m. with musical entertainment by Over the Ocean (gospel), followed by Jodi Austin & Black Diamond at 8 p.m.

Saturday offers a full slate of activities, culminating with a performance by Blazing Country (Don and Vicki Lybarger and family) on the main stage at 8 p.m. The Girlfriends will perform at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s activities begin at 9 a.m. with the baby show and other activities for kids. The talent show is at 11 a.m., and the evening parade is at 5 p.m. Conservationist Ralph Duren will present animal calls and stories at 1 p.m. The rotary jail will be open for tours, featuring the Jesse James tombstone traveling exhibit. The quilt show will be held at the Daviess County Library community room. Muzzleloaders and arrowheads will be on display in the courthouse.

Under the tent on the south side of the square, Martha Armstrong and her band will perform at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the Elsea Smith Blues Band from 3:30-5 p.m. Local vocal talent will also perform throughout the day under the tent.

Sunday’s highlights include the flea market on the square, the quilt show, rotary jail, and the Chautauqua Junior Rodeo at Dockery Park.

The Gallatin Theatre League will present “Koach!” at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday at Courter Theater.
