Pen and pencil enthusiasts will converge on North Central Missouri College July 19-22 for their 21st Biennial Convention. The American Pencil Collectors Society also held their 20th convention in Trenton in 2001.
Collectors are expected from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Wyoming and Georgia as well as other states and the countries of Estonia and Puerto Rico.
The collectors will be staying in dorm rooms at the college, local motels and Crowder State Park
Visitors are invited and welcome to come to the Ketcham Community Center on the NCMC campus to view the displays and visit with the collectors and may even come away with a pen or two. The best time to visit is from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday and Monday; 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; and from 6 to 8 o’clock on Sunday evening.
Activities not open to the public are planned on Monday and Tuesday evening as well as the Tuesday morning business meeting.
The group plans to tour the Grundy County Museum and the Jamesport community. Veach Saddlery will have a display at the convention on Monday and Mary Kay representatives will be giving facials for the ladies on Tuesday.
On Monday evening, former Harlem Globetrotter Gator Rivers will speak and perform for the collectors. A members-only auction will be held on Tuesday with local auctioneers doing the calling.
The Tuesday business meeting will include election of new officers and planning for the 2005 convention.
