They were selected from nearly 200 applicants to tour Missouri agribusinesses and meet leaders in agriculture, government and education as part of the academy’s activities. The students’ summer activities will take them to the St. Louis area June 9-13.

Two independent committees made up of agricultural leaders selected the students based on written applications and oral interviews. To be eligible, academy members must be high school sophomores and come from a farm family or be active in 4-H or FFA.

“The academy is designed to introduce students to the various career opportunities available in the agriculture industry, which is critical as they set their future education and career goals,” said Lowell Mohler, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. “In addition, the academy enhances the students’ leadership and communication skills.”

The department’s Division of Market Information and Outreach sponsors the academy and pays for the students’ expenses, except for personal spending and travel costs to Jefferson City.
