Megan Barnard was offered a contract for an elementary teaching position for the 2003-2004 school year during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held May 15. Chase Hiley was hired for summer custodial work.

Program reports for the library media center, food service program and health service program were reviewed and approved.

Mrs. Bielby reported an enrollment of 120 in K-6; 18 in preschool with a 93% attendance rate for April. She also indicated 108 students enrolled for summer school.

Mr. Michael reported an enrollment of 86 in 7-12; with a 96% attendance rate.

The board reviewed and approved the revised math curriculum for pre-school through sixth grade and applied Math I and II and Math Analysis.

Next year’s budget and the current projections from the state were discussed.

The principle insurance company for employee insurance provider for next year was selected.

The board considered the possibility of purchasing a school van for next year if money is available.

Bids on items the school had for sale were accepted

The board reviewed and approved a bid letter for selecting the school depository.

The board discussed the summer school bus route and bus routes for next year and equipment needs for the ag program for next year.

The board reviewed student appeals on absences.

The next meeting was set for Thursday, June 19.

Present at the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education for the month of May were Gary Caldwell, Chretta Mastin, Shelly Mason, Julie Clark, Allan Ward, David Neth and Melvin Lee, Mr. Michael, Mrs. Bielby and Mr. Burns.
