The Gallatin Board of Education was given an update on the A+ Partnership Plan by Chris Elbert and approved its renewal during their regular meeting held May 15. Mr. Elbert explained the program, its progress and goals, and listed the seniors that have met the A+ requirements. Those seniors were: Amanda Bohannon, Kamille Burrell, Kayli Burrell, Katrina Calhoon, Brook Carder, Crystal Chadwick, Roxi Davitt, Brady Feigly, Lauren Henderson, Jeremy Holcomb, Roxanne Hostetler, Will Jarboe, Jessica King, Jamie Lunsford, Misty Maddox and Laura McCann.
The ledger report was given and bills in the amount of $191,329 were approved for payment.
The board heard an update on board policies.
School personnel will experience only an 8% increase in health insurance with all benefits being retained. Office visits went from $15 to $20; the prescription card increased from 8 and 20 and 35 dollars. Benefits increased from $244 to $278 per month. All other insurance benefits remained the same with the effective date Aug. 1.
The board discussed the distance learning classroom. Gallatin is part of a consortium that is centered in Bethany. Gallatin’s obligation toward the distance consortium was to offer college classes for the community. That program may be revised in the future to a program which allows anyone with a polycom switch to connect.
During executive session, the board discussed the contract for natural gas; however, no proposal was ready at the time.
