Lindi Wayne, 18, of Gallatin, just graduated from high school this year, but she is already well on her way to fulfilling a dream of teaching dance at her own studio with the opening of Stage Crew on the square in Gallatin.
“I’ve just always loved dance, since I was a little kid, even before I was able to take classes,” says Lindi. “Working with the little kids, that’s what I’m most excited about. Both boys and girls are welcome. Boys are a little tougher to teach, but I’m up for the challenge.”
Lindi has rented the main part of the building which previously housed the Corner Hardware Store. R.L. Griggs will continue working out of the other section of the building.
Lindi plans to have the dance studio up and running by the first week of June. She has had a lot of help getting the building prepared by filling in holes and painting the walls and cleaning and replacing some broken tiles on the floor. Eventually she hopes to remove the tile down to the wood floor beneath, making a somewhat better surface for the dancers.
Stage Crew offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe,’ modern/lyrical, poms, twirling and aerobics.
Adult classes in tap, jazz and aerobics are also available. Twirling and poms will begin in July. All other classes will start in June. Lindi plans to also offer a stretch class sometime in the future. She has catalogs available for those interested in ordering dance supplies, such as batons and pom pons.
Lindi has been taking dance since she was nine or ten years old. She has studied in several classes and workshops, including with Teresa Foli of Ballet Arts in Chillicothe. She has taken master classes with Tamara Squires, choreographer for Michael Jackson, and Densil Adams, director with the Dallas Ballet. Lindi studied and assisted in hip hop with Jeanette Thagard, director/owner of J Company in Chicago.
Lindi has been teaching dance for four years and has assisted in dance instruction for ages two to 65. She has been a participant in regional dance competitions for the past five years.
Lindi will be the dance instructor at Stage Crew, with several others assisting her, including her mother, Cheri, who will be the studio’s secretary. Her brothers, Caleb, Brandon and Nick, have been helping her get the business started. Baby sister, Mariah, 11, has been taking dance for three years and is looking forward to being able to assist, especially with the smaller children. Lindi’s father is Jim Wayne. Other help has come from Jeremy Holcomb, Jake Rutherford and D.J. Harper.
Lindi plans to begin the summer dance session in June from around 8 to 11:30 through the weekdays. She will be working as a lifeguard in the afternoon hours. During the fall, the dance studio will be open after school and in the evening hours through the week days.
