Bill Lewis informed the Gallatin Board of Aldermen of about six as yet unsigned sewer easements during their regular meeting held April 28 at city hall. Mayor Schweizer is going to try to get four of the remaining sewer easements signed. The board appointed Roger Loxterman as the resident sewer inspector pending approval of the engineer firm.

Mr. Loxterman reported on the progress made on the pool repairs, estimating the cost of repairs to be around $7,200. He stated that the pool will be ready to open on Memorial weekend as in the past. He also reviewed the DNR inspection report on the water system.

The board approved a motion for Dick Curtis to do grave repairs at Brown and Greenwood cemeteries in the amount of $700 with the following charges $40 per filling, $15 per glue and caulk of nameplates and $5 per caulking only.

Mayor Schweizer recommended Tim Andrew to serve as west ward alderman. The vote was Norma Griffin, nay; Bob Snidow, nay; and Becky Wycoff, nay.

Becky Wycoff made a recommendation to Mayor Schweizer that Gene Caldwell would serve as west ward alderman. Mayor Schweizer said he would like to meet with him.

Dan Lockridge brought the new signature card application that needs to be filled out for the city of Gallatin.

Bob Snidow inquired about Hamilton Heating invoice during accounts payable. Kenneth King explained why the furnace was purchased and is hoping the city’s insurance company will reimburse the city.

Chief Wycoff stated that the police department would be handing out baseball cards that contained safety tips at a Royal’s game. He also gave an update on an incident that took place last week.

The board accepted a motion for the city to provide Richard and Julie Reynolds with an acceptance letter to install a drive up window at their business.

Autumn Acree submitted a new business license to be signed. She asked that the regular council meeting scheduled for May 26 be moved to May 27 due to the holiday and the board agreed, with meeting time set at 6 p.m.

Mayor Schweizer would like for City Clerk Autumn Acree to look for the bids on repairing the old water tower.

Bills in the amount of $11,725.11 were approved for payment.

Mayor Schweizer asked several questions about the sewer project, gas system, signature cards for the bank. He made the following statement: “The city is fortunate to have a good crew of capable people. It only makes sense to fully utilize their abilities. They have a greater interest in seeing that the work is done right, as they are the ones that will have to fix any problem when the contractor leaves. Even if it costs more, which it will not, Roger is the obvious choice for resident inspector. Is there any opposition to this or any discussion as to Roger’s qualifications?” Discussion was held with Roger on the issue.

The board held an executive session.

The above are the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting for the city of Gallatin held on Monday, April 28, at city hall. Present were Mayor Gene Schweizer, aldermen Becky Wycoff, Norma Griffin, Bob Snidow, City Clerk Autumn Acree, Police Chief Jim Wycoff, Dan Lockridge, Bill Lewis, Kenneth King and Roger Loxterman.
