Creative writing requires students to be imaginative and demonstrate their English skills. The Modern Woodmen Creative Writing Essay Contest offered students from North Daviess an opportunity to develop their writing skills while providing an experience for personal and academic accomplishments.

Students who participated in the contest received ribbons for their hard work. This year’s topic was “If I Were a Superhero.” Students wrote about what it would be like to be an all-new comic book superhero.

Local winners Megan Shaul and Colt Bohannon received trophies for first and second place respectively at the contest finals at North Daviess High School on April 25. Third place winner Nicole Henderson was unable to attend. Their names will be engraved on the school’s Creative Writing Essay Contest plaque.

This year’s contest is the thirteenth held at North Daviess. The contest annually involves more than 40,000 young writers in schools across the United States.

Finals in the Modern Woodmen of America School Speech Contest were also held April 25. First place winner in this contest was Bruce Sweet, second place was awarded to Catherine Jones, and third place went to Meghan Roberts.

Gold award pins were presented to the next two ranking finalists, Megan Shaul and Colt Bohannon. This contest involves over 90,000 students from across the U.S.
