The Winton R-6 Board of Education met April 17 at the school cafeteria. Those attending were Gary Caldwell, Chretta Mastin, Melvin Lee, David Neth, Julie Clark, Shelly Mason, Allen Ward, Wendell Burns and Lisa Bielby.

Projections for the 2003-04 school budget were discussed. Mr. Burns suggested that a special meeting might be necessary in June to finalize the budget, after definite numbers are received from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The board listened to student appeals on absentees, and discussed and reviewed sale items for the district.

Supt. Burns reported on the maintenance and facilities program, which the board reviewed and approved.

Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby reported enrollment of 120 in grades K-6, with 19 in pre- school, and an attendance rate of 93%. Mr. Burns presented the high school enrollment of 87 in grades 7-12 and an.attendance rate of 96%.

The board reviewed and approved the calendar of events and discussed stipends available to faculty for additional work.

The next regular board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15 at the school cafeteria.
