Gallatin R-5 grad and former all-state golfer Brice Garnett has been named the Mid-America Athletics Association Athlete of the Week for men’s golf after his recent 4th place finish at the Missouri Western State College Invitational.

Garnett, the #1 golfer for the MWSC Griffons, finished in a 2nd place tie Tuesday in the Crossroads of America Invitational hosted by Missouri Southern State College in Joplin.

Garnett led in the Crossroads tournament after shooting a 1-under round of 71 on Monday, but lost the lead to Central Missouri State University’s Jeff Vinyard on the second day. Garnett shot an 81 on Tuesday while Vinyard shot a 76 to improve his total. Garnett’s first day total was 4 shots better than any other competitor.

Missouri Western finished 4th in team standings at Joplin. CMSU won the tournament, followed by Washburn and Missouri Southern in a 2nd place tie.
