April 4, 7 p.m.
The Harlem Legends and the Gallatin All Stars will hold a benefit game at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Gallatin High School Gym.
The Harem Legends are a branch of the Harlem Globetrotters. Rev. Tim Harrell of the Crossroads Assembly of God Church at Cameron is sponsoring the event. A Globetrotter himself, Tim has traveled with the team all over the country doing benefit games as part of the Globetrotters show. They mostly play college university teams as fund-raisers for the community. Tim will be joining Meadowlark Lemon’s All Stars for another round of game playing in September.
The team appearing at Gallatin will include Michael Memphis “Showboat” Douglas (Meadowlark’s back-up man is funny and full of pranks); Gator Rivers; Billy Thompson of the LA Lakers (he won two world championships in the late 1980’s as well as winning a gold medal at the Olympics); Tyron Hollywood Brown; Chris West of the LA Clippers, (called the dunking machine); Duane Anthony of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) from Atchison, Kan. (he’s the trick dribbler); and Tim Harrell (the shooter for the team was nicknamed the ghost because he appeared out of nowhere and he’s the only white player on the team).
Referees for the game at Gallatin will be Russell Heldenbrand of Gallatin and John Berry of Cameron.
The benefit will go toward an expansion project for the Crossroads Assembly of God Church at Cameron and the Gallatin school.
Ticket price is $10 with six and under free. For tickets, contact Sherri Kerns at 660-663-2171.
