The Voice of Democracy/Patriots Pen Banquet was held March 13, at Gallatin Lions Hall. Voice of Democracy is for high school students. The theme this year was “Freedoms Obligation.”
First place winner was Steven Steinman from North Daviess R-3 High School, son of David and Sheri Steinman. Second place winner was Stephanie Caldwell from Winston R-6 High School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Caldwell. Third place winner was Nicole Ray from North Daviess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ray.
Patriots Pen is an essay contest for junior high students (grades seventh and eighth). The theme this year was “My Pledge to America.” First place winner was Kathryn Everly from Gallatin R-5, daughter of Mark and Ann Everly.
Kathryn placed first at district and proceeded on the state competition where she placed second in a very close decision. Second place winner was Catherine Jones from North Daviess, daughter of Susan Buell-Jones. Third place winner was Shay Esbeck from Gallatin R-5, son of Barney and Robin Esbeck.
