The eighth grade English class at Winston R-6 was chosen to take part in a National Schools Project designed to share our youth’s talents and provide a publishing opportunity for young poets. Nine students from the eighth grade class were chosen to have their poems published in two different books.

Pictured are the students chosen: front row, Timber McCaslin, Jody Michael and Jette Simecek; back row, Justin King, Derek King, Megan Cramer, Kenny Lee and Jessica Frazier. Misty Loyd is not pictured.

Timber McCaslin, Jody Michael, Justin King, Derek King, Kenny Lee and Jessica Frazier were chosen to have their poems published in the 7th Edition of the Young American Poetry Digest

Their poems were selected by a panel of educators that felt the poems were well written based on the student’s age and grade level.

Three other students, Megan Cramer, Jette Simecek and Misty Loyd were nominated to have their poems published with other selections from schools throughout the United States in the edition of Teacher’s Selection: Anthology of 8th Grade Poetry.

The Winston R-6 school library has received complimentary copies of these books if anyone would like to read the poems of these new young authors.
