David and Lois (Carmichael) Hockensmith will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception for family and friends from 2-4 p.m. on March 23 at Park Hill Christian Church, 6601 NW 72nd St., Kansas City. No gifts please.

David and Lois married on March 23, 1943, at the Pickering home of Marvin and Nellie Carmichael, parents of Lois. David’s parents were William and Grace Hockensmith of Gallatin. The Rev. L.B. Day officiated. Their attendants were Les and Corky Reaksecker of Maryville. Also attending were Grace Hockensmith and Maxine Whitt, sister of D.W. and Bertha Swinford, aunt of Lois.

David is a veteran of World War II, with 33 months of service in the Americal Division, U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater from the Solomon Islands to occupation of Japan. After farming for several years D.W. and Lois built a successful electrical contracting firm, Hockensmith Electric in Maryville. They retired in 1986 and moved from Pickering to Kansas City in 1993.

The reception will be hosted by their three sons and families. They are David Jr. and wife Julie of Springfield; Dana and wife Sue of Manchester, and Deon and wife Sheryl of Kansas City. They have eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
