Superintendent Wendell Burns discussed state revenue projections for 2003-2004 with members of the Winston R-6 Board of Education during their regular meeting held Feb. 19. Mr. Burns described the situation as ‘wait and see’ and stated that no cuts to programs or faculty were planned at this time.

Contracts were offered to High School Principal David Michael and Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby.

Eric Critten was hired as ag instructor and Bill Mastin was hired as a bus driver for the 2003-2004 school year.

The resignations of Dan Bridgeman, industrial arts instructor, and Sarah Butler, fifth grade teacher, were accepted, both effective the end of this school year.

The board hear student appeals on absences. They also heard from a parent regarding rules and regulations pertaining to junior varsity and varsity participation in basketball. The board also heard from another parent addressing the school policy on eligibility to participate on senior trips.

Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby reported an enrollment of 112 in kindergarten through sixth grade with a 91% attendance rate. High School Principal David Michael reported an enrollment of 82 in seventh through 12th grades with a 92% attendance rate.

The board reviewed and approved the summer school program and the Parents as Teachers program.

Procedures for end of year distribution of breakfast and lunch funds was reviewed. Discussion was held on the Early Childhood Special Education route.

The school calendar and the PDC manual with revision was adopted for the 2003-2004 school year.

The board discussed a problem with the sinks draining improperly in the FACS room and art room.

The next meeting was set for Monday, March 17.
