The Knee-Hi 4-H Club met on Feb. 12 at the Christian Church fellowship hall. The meeting was called to order by President Riley Rains. Tye Humphrey led the “Pledge of Allegiance” and Kelsey McLaughlin led the 4-H Pledge. Secretary Wren Tolen took roll, “What is Your Favorite Valentine Candy.”

Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given. Dates for upcoming beef, swine and sheep judging and showing clinics were discussed. Members are to contact the Extension Office to register. Upcoming 4-H camp dates were announced. The Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show will be held July 10-12. The group voted to give a donation to the Missouri State 4-H Council’s program “Kids Helping Kids.”

Meridith Berry from the Buchanan County Extension Office presented certificates, globe beach balls and cookies shaped like Missouri to the members who completed the six week “Family Geography Challenge.”

Those members were Morgan Horvatin, Tye Humphrey, Kelsey McLaughlin, Danielle Ness, Wren Tolen and Casey Sweatman. Leader Alicia Chrisman gave the program on the history of Valentine’s Day. The meeting adjourned and refreshments were served.

Twenty-one members of the Daviess County Business Womens’ Association held a dinner meeting on Feb. 11 at Joni’s Restaurant with Lori Adams and Norma Griffin as hostesses. Secretary Pam Howard reported that her search of past records concerning the criteria for the annual scholarship had yielded little new information.

Lola Critten made a motion, seconded by Geraldine Snidow, that the scholarship be available only for a senior girl who is a full-time student at a Daviess County High School. Ballots were collected and the motion carried 21-0. Lola Critten will be the 2003 Scholarship Chairman assisted by Patty Heldenbrand, Darlene Patton and Geraldine Snidow. The birthday raffles were won by Deanna McWilliams, Charlotte Critten, Candy Hughes and Pam Howard.

Members exchanged Valentine gifts and “take away” bingo games provided a good way to end the evening. Mary Virginia Croy and Jane McKinsey will be hostesses for the March 11 meeting. We are to meet at the north door of the courthouse at 5:30 p.m. Members will have a tour of the courthouse before having dinner and a business meeting at Breadeaux Pizza.

Laureate Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 3rd at the home of Nancy Tate. Communications from International were read concerning our donation to the endowment fund and rushing. The Chapter donated $200 to Girls State. The executive board met to discuss plans for Founders Day. A sweetheart dinner will be Feb. 17th at “Seasons” for members and guests. The birthday party at Lake Viking Health Care Center was served by Chapter members Feb. 11th.

Girls State delegate and alternate were voted on. The courtesy committee reported food was taken to member Barbara Irby following surgery. Founders Day plans were discussed and social chairman will make reservations at “Seasons.”

Nancy Tate presented the program on the founder of the “Kewpie Doll” and had her collection on display. The next meeting will be March 3rd. Lois Agenstein hostess and Carol Weaver program.
