R. L. Trimm, Jr., 82, died Friday, February 7, 2003 at his home in Gallatin.

Masonic service was held on Saturday evening at the McWilliams Family Funeral Home at Gallatin. Services were held on Sunday, February 9th at the First Christian Church at Gallatin. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin with military rites conducted by Frank Frazier VFW Post #2172.

R. L. was born March 12, 1920 to Raymond Lafayette and Alma Jane Selby Trimm on a farm near McFall, Missouri. He attended and graduated from McFall High School in 1936.

R. L married Winona Dowell on September 14, 1939 in Bethany, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 1965. On October 2, 1965 R.L. married Betty McGinnis in Gallatin.

R. L. proudly served in the Army in World War II stationed in the Apennine Mountains and Po Valley, Italy with the 37th Infantry K-9 Corp, where he received the Bronze Star for his work with his dog, Rin.

He returned to Gallatin in 1945 where he was in partnership with his father-in-law Lial Dowell in the Dowell-Trimm Garage. In 1951 he and long-time friend Tommy McWilliams started the Trimm-McWilliams Oil Co. At that same location R. L. owned and operated Trimm Oil Co. for 25 years.

He took great pride in serving his community serving on the Gallatin City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and the Daviess County School Board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Royal Arch Masons and Moila Shrine, receiving his 50 year pins. He also was a member of VFW. R. L. was long-time member and Trusteee of the First Christian Church, where he served as deacon for many years.

He was a rural letter carrier for 30 years.

R.L. was preceded in death by one infant Granddaughter, Carolyn Elaine Schweizer in 1965.

Survivors include his wife Betty, of 37 years of the home, seven children, Ann and Gene Schweizer, Kay and Frank Woodruff, Sue and Bob Bird, all of Gallatin, Lu Jane and Dick Swails of St. Joseph, Rod and Linda McGinnis of Liberty, Jill and Phil Gooding of Centralia, and Steve and Shauna Trimm, Salt Lake City, Utah, brother Bill Trimm of Jefferson City, half-brother Jim Trimm of Albany, 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews,

and a host of friends.
