The Listen and Learn Club met Jan. 30 at the home of Mary Virginia Croy. Norma Johnson gave the devotional. The programs for the coming year were planned. The club always gives a donation to Children’s Mercy Hospital The treasurer will send them $25. The next meeting is Feb. 27 at the home of Dorothy Dale.
Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at the home of Lucille Bruce Jan. 6 with 10 members present. Regent Jeannie Carpenter led the opening ritual, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and the American Creed. Chaplain Lucille Bruce conducted a memorial service of Roberta Smith Wickizer who passed away Dec. 18, 2002. Her graveside services were at Hillcrest on Dec. 23 at attended by chapter members.
The President General’s message was read by Chairman Beverly Ward, followed by National Defense Report and discussion. Everyone in attendance signed a birthday card for member Myrl Langford, celebrating her 97th birthday. Fallis Froman, treasurer, gave a report and informed those present that she’s sent in reservations for State Conference our regent and delegate. New member Laurie Walton Roll was welcomed into Gallatin Chapter.
Secretary Ann Schweizer read the minutes of November and December meetings and were approved. Regent reported that she had taken $180 worth of gifts to Veteran’s Hospital in Kansas City and that some were taken to a women’s shelter. Lucille Bruce and Jeannie Carpenter reported on their trip to Roslyn Heights for the Holiday Open House and encouraged others to go next year. Mrs. Froman reported a good attendance at the event.
Discussion of upcoming President’s Day Tea to honor the county students as Good Citizens and the American History Essay winners along with special award winners concluded the business meeting. A program was presented by our newest member Laurie Roll (in her many hats), “American Folklore and Legends.” Refreshments were served by hostesses Lucille Bruce and Laurie Roll. Next meeting will be President’s Day Tea at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
