Kevin Ingram and Jerry Scott with North Missouri Internet Service discussed the high speed wireless Internet service they have started in town during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Jan. 27 at city hall. They requested space on the city’s water towers for antennas. General discussion followed.
Roger Loxterman, utility superintendent, reported that the pump in the south water well has been repaired. While using the north water well the city was having complaints of discolored water, which was the result of high iron. When the pump in the south water well was installed they had the north water well acidified to remove the iron in the well. Mr. Loxterman stated that the jet machine would be having repairs which was in this year’s budget.
Mr. Loxterman also stated the blower at the wastewater plant has gone out and needs to be replaced. General discussion followed. Alderman Snidow commented on the odor the wastewater was causing on the east side of town.
Dave Scrivens with MoDOT stated he wanted to introduce himself and to inform the mayor and aldermen of projects that MoDOT would be working on over the next few years.
Chief of Police Jim Wycoff stated that the person involved with several car thefts in the area has verbally admitted to the crimes but at this time will not sign a statement. He also commended Officer Mark Richards for making some drug related arrests which led to six indictments.
Wilbur Bush stated his concerns on dogs running freely throughout the city. As there is a leash law, Mr. Bush feels that the law needs to be enforced. He asked what can be done to resolve this. Mayor Davis stated that the city does not have the funds to have a dog catcher and this is why the police have taken on that duty. Mayor Davis suggested contacting the police immediately and they would do their best to catch the dog.
Steve Derr a broker with HDVEST informed the mayor and board of alderman about the new life insurance policy Kathy Arnold had acquired for the city employees and answered questions.
Alderman Schweizer asked about cross training in the Utility Department. Mr. Loxterman stated that most employees are cross trained except when dealing with high voltage electricity that requires classes.
Deputy City Clerk Acree submitted the completed financial statement. A motion to publish the financial statement carried.
Ms. Acree stated the ads had been placed for the city administrator/city clerk position. General discussion of daily operations followed.
Mayor Davis agreed to closing city hall from 11 a.m. to 12 noon for funeral services for Judy Carder Tuesday.
Mayor Davis asked if anyone could attend a MOPEP meeting in Columbia this week. Mrs. Arnold usually attended. He also discussed issues regarding the Boy Scouts.
Bills in the amount of $19,222.76 were approved for payment.
